Our Mission:

Holding to the overall mission of the Hayward Unified School District, the HUSD Child Development Program is dedicated to providing quality early education that promotes the development of the whole child while building a strong foundation for academic and life-long success.

Our Philosophy:

Current research confirms that children learn best when they experience a variety of developmentally appropriate learning activities that incorporate a child’s individual strengths, needs and interests.  Children play, explore, investigate, are appropriately challenged and have opportunities to be successful in the context of caring and supportive relationships.   Teachers collaborate with families, knowing that strong teacher-family partnerships are essential to a child’s learning and development.  Our program is inclusive of all children and reflects the child’s family and community cultures. A primary goal of HUSD State Preschool is Kindergarten and life-long learning readiness.

Our Services:

We take pride in the strong relationships that are fostered between our California State Preschool Programs, and the community schools that receive our children into their classrooms prepared for Kindergarten and excited to continue to learn. We are honored to support our teen parents through education and child care services at our Tennyson Infant and Toddler Center. We support our economically challenged working families by providing child care services through our Family Childcare Home Network.

Our Vision:

Since it's inception in 1970, HUSD Child Development has continuously looked for new ways to improve our programs with the goal of providing the optimal educational preschool and early care services to our community.

Today, and in the future, we will continue to work to raise awareness of the importance of early childhood education and child development and find resources to expand our educational programs and support services. We will continue to work on the state and local level to promote preschool for all children and we will work to continually strengthen the connection between early learning and the life-long education process.
